Magazine/Exposition Design
Style: Herbert Bayer
“Herbert Bayer was one of the Bauhaus’s most influential students, teachers, and proponents, advocating the integration of all arts throughout his career” (MoMa). He made such a big impact in the art world that he shouldn’t be forgotten, so that is where the expo will come into play. The event posters will use interesting page layout and bold colors to promote the event and draw people to the location. As people arrive they will immediately encounter Herbert Bayer’s style and use of bright colors in the signage. This will also make the signage unmistakable and easy to spot where they are. Finally, the event pieces will help the user understand who Herbert Bayer was with a booklet and two spreads with an article about his life designed in his style.
For this project, the class was tasked with the challenge to create part of a publication called “15 Profiles of Influential Graphic Designers” for other design students to learn about influential graphic designers.
Each student was prompted to select a Graphic Designer and research him or her. We were then to write copy for a feature article about them which also featured some collected samples of their work. Finally each student was to design a cover and two spreads about the graphic designer and design a class presentation.
